What colors should I pick?

You will need to figure out what colors you would like your wedding flowers

How do you do that?

Answer these questions:

What color are my bridesmaids dresses?

Have you picked colors for everything else already?

Do you I have a theme for my wedding?

What season am I getting married in?

The color of the bridesmaids dresses and any other color you have picked for your wedding does have some contributing factors in the choosing of your wedding flowers - but not all.

For instance if you have purple dresses - and your suits are purple - you do not have to have purple and black flowers - you just need to have beautiful flowers that will go with purple and black outfits

You might want to go with yellow flowers, or green flowers, or all white flowers, and no color combination is wrong. It is your wedding, and you can pick whatever colors you want.

A great rule of thumb to remember when picking your wedding flowers - is that it always looks best if the flowers DO NOT match the dress color.

Here is an example

When wedding flowers perfectly match the dress colors - they tend to disappear into the dresses. Especially when you get your photos back. No one wants to spend a bunch of money on their flowers and have them almost disappear.

It always looks best to have your wedding flowers a different color than your bridesmaids dresses

You can see here - it is almost the same color bridesmaids dress, but the flowers just pop off the dresses. Having the contrast against the dresses help the flowers stand out and accent the beautiful dresses.

Look through magazines, catalogs, Pinterest, Google, and our website to see what you like. Did you see something that jumps out at you and you love??

Finding some photos of what you love is a great place to start. Save the photos!

How long does it take?

Most people will want custom made wedding flowers. They typically do not want to purchase the same items everyone else has.

If you want to use fresh flowers, you should plan for your flowers at least 3 - 4 months in advance. You will have to meet with a local florist to discuss what you want, and get a quote. Fresh flowers do have limitations. First of all, some fresh flowers are not available at any time of the year, your fresh florist will be able to help guide you through the process of what flowers are available, and which are not. Also keep in mind, with the fresh flowers you will not be able to see what the flowers look like until the day of your wedding. So if you are a bit of a worry wart, or get stressed out easily, this may be something you want to avoid

If you want to use silk flowers, you should also plan 3 - 4 months in advance. Look through websites, get quotes for custom made flowers in your colors/style to match your wedding. Custom wedding flowers are the norm, and typically not more expensive than standard selections.

Silk wedding flowers usually take between 4 - 6 weeks, however there are silk flower websites that take months to complete the order, so make sure to read carefully, and ask how long the flowers will take to create before they arrive at your door.

Most Important!!

Have fun with the flower planning process. It it not as scary and overwhelming as people believe. Flowers can add personality and flair to any event.

Share the photos you have found, ask opinions, and if your planning to use silk flowers - order samples so you can take them with you to planning appointments and fittings to see the colors against the dresses
